In a recent article from ConsumerReports.org, there was a study conducted on some of the leading protein shakes on the market. Out of the gate, I have to say I was pretty taken back, but at the same time, not necessarily surprised. As someone who has been drinking protein shakes since I was a young lad, it definitely grabbed my attention. The study showed levels of 4 metals commonly found in the shakes many of us consumer on a daily basis. Those metals were Arsenic, Cadmium, Lead, and Arsenic. If you take a look at the link to Consumer Reports, you can see the study for yourself. EAS’s pre-made Myoplex and every product from Muscle Milk were the main culprits. The study showed the levels of metals in 3 servings per day. The other shakes, for the most part, came back with trace amounts of each metal in their shake, which is encouraging and discouraging at the same time. If you’re looking for a protein shake that is “clean,” take a look at Nature’s Plus. It’s a dairy-free, gluten-free, non-GMO product that won’t turn you into Doctor Octopus, but will allow all the quality benefits from taking a daily protein shake.I’ve personally used Nature’s Plus products in the past, and can say through first hand experience, that all of their products are of high quality and made from naturally occurring ingredients.
After seeing this study, it really makes a point in itself to what we should be doing every day when searching for our nutritional values in our every day lives…EAT! As a society, we are always looking for the quick fix, the fastest way to the finish line, without taking a step back and asking ourselves if we’re going down the right path. Being in the fitness industry, I see allllllllllll the garbage products that are jammed in my face on a daily basis. This product will help you gain mass, this product will help you shed fat, and this one right here…This one will help you shoot laser beams from your eyes, and believe it or not, you’ll be able to fly too!!! I mean come on, the only thing that was ever able to give us those abilities, was a sweet pair of PF Flyers! My point is, get as much of your nutritional value every day, from your food. Eat organic chicken, wild fish, lean beef, etc. Think “clean” when you’re in the supermarket. It will enhance your health and make you feel like Superman (or woman) when you put it all together. One more thing to remember about supplements…They’re selling you a product, and they don’t care about you. They want your money, that’s the bottom line. They may be in the “Health and Fitness” industry, but at the end of the day, take health and fitness out of it, and it’s no different than anything else, an industry trying to make as much money as possible. Do your homework on anything you put in your body, eat right, and exercise, and you’ll be ahead of the game in no time.
